Serious Business

Hi everyone!! :) TGIM...right??

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  I wish I had lots of fun stuff to recap about this weekend...but it pretty much looked like this:

Only 6ish weeks to go until the Bar exam!  I don't know whether I want time to speed up or slow down, so I guess I should just take it one day @ a time.

One thing I did not get in this ENTIRE weekend was a good sweat.

Justin seriously kicked my butt in the workout department this weekend.  He went for long sessions on both Saturday & Sunday.

I really don't like to be "shown up" in this department, so when we arrived at the gym this AM for our rise & shine workout, I was ready to knock one out of the park.

I strutted my half-asleep booty over to the treadmill, and got to work on this insane interval set.

Coming from a girl who just broke 8.0 speed on the treadmill for the first time last week, this set was serious business.

I really never thought I could run faster than the 7's on a treadmill because, hey, I've got some really short legs on me.

I took a look @ the speeds on the workout, and told myself "you can do ANYTHING for 30 seconds."

I'll admit that I was being a bit too ambitious with this one.

At least I lived to tell you guys about it {barely, I had to take a couple of puffs of Justin's inhaler when I got home because my chest was STILL tight!}.

Here were my stats, in case you are nosey, like me! ;)

Not too shabby for 32 minutes, if ya ask me!

As far as whether I would recommend this interval set to you guys or not, I would say ONLY give it a try if you are an ADVANCED treadmill runner -- and you are feeling like a serious bad a$s that day! :)

**Also remember never to start up any new fitness routine without consulting first with your doctor!**

Here is a slightly modified version of the workout, which I plan to use the next time I want a similar experience, without feeling like my chest is about to explode @ the end of it all:

If you are super intimidated by the 30 second sprints, remember, you are in control of the speed, so you can always bring it down if it gets to be too much!

Another tip is that if you are feeling super fatigued after one or two (or three!) of the sprints, take your speed down to a 4.0 for a minute, then rev it back up to a 6.5, 6.3, or 6.0 (depending where you're at), and then get into your next sprint.  I did this twice during my workout this morning (hence the extra 2 minutes) near the very end.

Since I'm a weirdo, I sometimes have to focus on something when I'm doing such a fast sprint.  I like to think to myself that I am running towards a goal -- like passing the bar, or having a killer bikini body!

If that doesn't work, you could always try picturing yourself racing against someone who really erks you.  Perhaps a pesky ex-girlfriend/boyfriend of your significant other?? Not that I would EVER do that...

Do whatcha gotta do! ;)

I know Monday's almost over, but if you are still in need of a little dose of happiness, I beg of you to check out this hilarious website: funnyyahooanswers.net.

This website documents some of the most RIDICULOUS questions people submit to Yahoo! to get peoples' answers/advice.  For example: "How many calories are in fingernails?", or "If you make instant coffee in a microwave, do you go back in time?"

Sit back, relax, and get ready for some serious belly laughs.

It's time for me to get back to the books!

See you all tomorrow!

xoxo

  1. I never thought I'd do anything over 8mph but now I do 9.5 mph/30 second sprints! It's awful and sometimes I feel like I'm going to fall on my face or stop breathing, but I feel great when I'm done! Thanks for sharing your routine.
